UN, Church leaders mark anniversary of Archbishop Romero's assassination
Church leaders are calling public attention to the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero, the outspoken critic of human-rights abuses in El Salvador, who was shot and killed while celebrating Mass on March 24, 1980.
The murder occurred near the peak of El Salvador's bloody civil war. The UN has recognized Archbishop Romero's witness by designating March 24 as a day dedicated to revealing the truth about human-rights abuses.
